Why Midcoast Maine Is the Perfect Place for Your Next Home

People sometimes ask us what the attraction is to living in Maine, especially when so many are drawn to the warm weather and beaches of the South. Truth be told, Midcoast Maine has a vibe all its own, offering homeowners a rare quality of life. The friendly, welcoming nature of its residents fosters a close-knit community atmosphere that many find appealing.

The area is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, including rugged coastlines, dense forests and picturesque lakes, offering abundant opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, fishing and skiing.

The state’s overall cost of living is lower than the national average, with homebuyers paying less than U.S. median house prices. Not only will purchasing your next home in Midcoast Maine save you money, but the area also offers a peaceful and unique lifestyle.

Benefits of Buying a Home in Midcoast Maine

At City + Harbor Real Estate, we are keenly aware that Americans enjoy a diverse culture, and no single area is perfect for everyone. As lifelong Mainers, we’ve grown intimately familiar with the Midcoast and its cities, towns, landscape and solid community members.

Here are some benefits of Midcoast Maine we believe are worth considering as you search for a new home:

All Four Seasons

This area of Maine offers residents a mild spring, pleasant summer and gorgeous fall foliage that attracts visitors from hundreds of miles away. A place that has all four seasons allows working families to experience change as it coincides with holidays and events. While Maine winters are comparatively cold, families get to make snowmen, ski, sled and cozy up by the fire.

The Food Is Amazing

I can’t imagine anyone disputing the fact that Maine lobster is second to none, touted across the country as the most tender and delicious. Our fishing fleets are responsible for 90 percent of the country’s lobster supply. While it’s true that you can dine on a Maine lobster that was exported to another state, the boat-to-table experience cannot be replicated.

That being said, Maine is also home to numerous microbreweries, farmer’s markets, 99 percent of the nation’s blueberries, and an abundance of other types of seafood.

If you are a foodie (like us!), Midcoast Maine will not disappoint.

Incredible Natural Landscapes

If you like the great outdoors or basking in the natural beauty of picturesque mountains, lush forests and the Atlantic coastline, Midcoast Maine is a veritable treasure trove. In fact, these locations are hailed as the area’s natural wonders.

  • Maiden’s Cliff: Located north of Rockland in Camden Hills State Park, Maiden’s Cliff overlooks Megunticook Lake. You can hike the mile to the cliff peak in about 45 minutes to an hour. The panoramic view of the lake, ocean and fall foliage is awe-inspiring.
  • Sears Island: It may surprise you to learn that the largest undeveloped island on the East Coast is also located north of Rockland. Approximately five miles across, Sears Island can be accessed by a causeway, and there’s parking so you can walk through the untouched landscape. The drive is only about an hour from Rockland and a wonderful scenic excursion only found in Midcoast Maine.
  • Lighthouses: The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, Marshall Point Lighthouse and the Owls Head Lighthouse are all close by, and you can easily visit all three in a day. What better way to see the coastline and take in some of the historical aspects of the area?
